No matter how desolate or dark our circumstances may seem, the Bible is always there to offer us guidance, hope, and strength. So, sit back and read on to learn which books of the Bible you should turn to when you’re struggling.

Why Do We Struggle?

We all face struggles in life. It is a part of the human experience. Struggles can come in many forms, such as financial difficulties, relationship problems, health issues, etc. No matter our struggles, we can find comfort and hope in God’s Word.

There are a lot of reasons why we struggle, and these reasons include the following:

  • Sinning so often and not repenting, which leads us away from God
  • Lacking faith in God
  • Not believing that God will be able to get us through our problems
  • Failing to work hard to make our lives better
  • Procrastinating

When we struggle, it is often easy to feel alone and like no one understands us. We may feel like God has abandoned us or that He is punishing us. However, this is not the case! God is always with us, even in our darkest hours. He knows what we are going through and cares about our struggles.

While our struggles can be overwhelming sometimes, we can always find comfort and hope in God’s word. Below are five books of the Bible that can be particularly helpful during difficult times.

1. Psalms

The Book of Psalms is full of comfort and hope, making it a great resource when struggling with anxiety and depression. It is filled with verses that remind us of God’s love, mercy, and faithfulness which can encourage and strengthen us when feeling down. Below are some of the helpful verses from the Book of Psalms when we are struggling:

Psalm 23:1-4

“The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”

Psalm 23:1-4 is one of the best prayers to recite when feeling anxious or down. It reminds us that God is always with us through ups and downs. It also reassures us of His goodness and love. You are not reading this article for no reason. God wants you to remember how He has always been there for you.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10 talks about how God is still in control even when we feel like the world is against us. This is a great verse to read when you feel overwhelmed or stressed out. As humans, it can be frustrating when things are not going our way. However, remember that God is still in control and will never leave or forsake us.

Psalm 27:1

“The LORD is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?”

Psalm 27:1 talks about how God is bigger than all of our problems and how He is our protector. This is a great verse to read when feeling scared or alone. While difficult circumstances can push us to our limits, we can always find strength and comfort in God.

Psalm 55:22

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”

When we have problems, our first instinct is to turn to one of our friends or family members and cry our hearts out. Reading this verse is just like doing the exact same thing. It reminds us that we should cast all of our cares on God because He is the only one who can sustain us through tough times.

After all, God is our friend and our family. Therefore, we can always run to Him when we need help. We can pray and tell Him all about the things that bother us. There are no filters required when it comes to talking to God. He will listen and help us through anything according to His will.

Psalm 34:17-19

“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all.”

This Psalm is an excellent reminder that no matter what we are going through, God is always by our side. He hears our cries and will deliver us from our troubles. If you are struggling with something, turn to this Psalm for comfort and hope.

2. Proverbs

Proverbs provide wisdom for everyday life. This book is a great place to turn to if you are struggling to decide or trying to figure out what to do next. This is because the Book of Proverbs is filled with verses that teach us how to live wisely and make good decisions. Below are five good Proverbs verses that you can read when struggling:

Proverbs 12:25

“An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.”

Proverbs 12:25 can be helpful when we are worried or stressed about something. It is a reminder that our words have power. So, the next time you are feeling anxious or down, try to speak words of encouragement to yourself. Most importantly, turn to God’s word; He will lead you to the right decision.

Proverbs 16:3

“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

This verse reminds us that when we commit our lives to God, He will establish our plans and help us achieve His purposes for our lives. We must remember never to get disappointed about our decisions because as long as we trust and commit them to God, everything will happen at the right time.

Proverbs 18:14

“The spirit of a man can sustain his infirmity, but a crushed spirit who can bear?”

This verse reminds us that our spirit sustains us through tough times. When we are feeling down or discouraged, it is our spirit that allows us to keep going. So if you are struggling with something, take care of your spirit. Feed it with positive words, prayer, and time in God’s Word. This will help you to stay strong and motivate you to keep going.

Proverbs 22:29

“Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.”

A great example for this verse is the story of Mother Teresa. She was a woman who was faithful in the little things. She served the poorest of the poor and loved them unconditionally. As a result, she touched the lives of millions of people and is now known as one of the greatest humanitarians of all time.

We may not be called to do something on such a grand scale, but we can all be faithful in the little things God has called us to do. When we obey His call, He will use us in ways we could never have imagined for His glory.

So, if you are struggling today, trust God and be faithful in the little things. He will bless you beyond measure.

Proverbs 30:5

“Every word of God is pure; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.”

This verse is an excellent reminder that we can always trust the Lord’s word. His word and His presence will always be a constant in our lives. Therefore, we should not worry too much about the things of this world that are constantly changing. Instead, we should focus on the eternal things that will never change.

3. Genesis

The Book of Genesis is the first book of the Bible, and it tells us the story of creation. This is a great book to read if you are struggling with your faith. It will remind you of God’s creation, beauty, and power. Below are three key verses from the Book of Genesis.

Genesis 1:28

“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

This verse reminds us of the power of God. He created the world and everything in it and has given us dominion over it. Therefore, no matter what problems we face or how big our problems may seem, God is always bigger than them. And that’s enough reason never to give up.

Genesis 12:13

“And the LORD said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;”

This verse is a reminder of the trials we will face in this life. We will be strangers in a land that is not ours and be afflicted for a time. But, we need to remember that we are not alone in our struggles. God is with us, and He will see us through. God’s power and grace will always prevail no matter what we face.

Genesis 12:13

“And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:”

This verse reminds us that God is a constant presence that we can rely on no matter what we face in this life. He will never leave us or forsake us. We can always look to Him for strength and guidance. There is great comfort in knowing that we have a God who will always watch over us and guide us to make the best life choices.

4. Acts

The Book of Acts is great to read when struggling because it reminds us of God’s power. It tells the story of how the early church was filled with the Holy Spirit and went out and preached the gospel to all nations.

It is an excellent reminder that no matter what we face, God is always with us and is always in control. Below are four verses from Acts that can be helpful during times of struggle.

Acts 20:35

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'”

This verse is a great reminder that even when we struggle, we can still be a blessing to others. We should never forget that giving is more blessed than receiving. Therefore, we must always strive to offer a helping hand to those who need it.

Acts 20:24

“But I do not consider my life of any account as dear to myself, so that I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify solemnly of the gospel of the grace of God.”

Sometimes, we feel our worth is based on our accomplishments or what others think of us. However, this verse from Acts highlights that true worth comes from fulfilling God’s mission- regardless of how difficult it might be.

It is easy to get drowned in self-pity or focus on our problems when we struggle.  However, remembering that we have a purpose can help us to keep perspective and push through tough times.

Acts 27:25

“So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be just as I have been told.”

Acts 27:25 is a verse that reminds us that we must remain steadfast in our faith, even when things are tough. While it is easy to lose hope when we’re struggling, this verse reminds us that God will always extend a hand to those who believe in Him. As long as we open our hearts and minds to Him, He will always improve our lives.

Acts 16:31

“They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your household.”

This verse reminds us that there is something great that we can all look forward to in this life: salvation. When we are feeling lost or struggling, reading this verse can help us remember that our hope is in Jesus Christ and that He will never abandon us. Because of Jesus Christ, we can look forward to an eternity with God and all of His glory. This is enough to help us get through anything that this life throws at us.

Bottom Line

The Bible always has great advice for us, no matter what we are struggling with. If you are looking for some guidance, read these books of the Bible we have listed above.

God has plenty of promises to us that He will never leave us alone and will always be there for us, no matter what. Therefore, we can turn to Him and His word for help in times of need. His promises are always a source of strength and encouragement.

The best thing about God’s promises is that they are unchanging, and we can always count on them. No matter what you face today, know that God is with you and will always be the rock you can stand on. He is faithful to His word and He will help you through your struggles.
